Getting rid of mold is something a lot of people have to do from time to time. Mold grows in all sorts of buildings and environments. If you have mold in your home or business, you should get rid of it as soon as you possibly can. It will prevent further health dangers. Also, if you get rid of the mold quickly, you can stop it from spreading and causing more damage to your building. There are lots of DIY household mold removal methods out there. People usually try those ideas because they’re not sure if they should call in professionals. But, some of those methods don’t work so well. We’re going to tell you which ones and why they aren’t the best ideas.

Say “Bye-Bye” to the Bleach

Yeah, sounds crazy. Bleach literally does everything for us, including killing mold, right? Not quite. See, a lot of people think that mold can be taken care of with a few squirts of bleach and a little elbow grease. But, spraying and scraping and scrubbing aren’t really going to get the job done. Of course, they’ll help to remove the surface layer of the mold growths. But, household mold removal is much more than simply getting rid of the top layer.

Bleach can’t really get through the floor or wall surfaces. It’s designed in a way that prevents it from really sinking into the materials of your house structure. So, it won’t be able to get beneath the surface to kill the root of the mold. Believe it or not, the problem can get worse after it’s irritated with this strong chemical. The mold might actually sink deeper beneath the surface — further into the wall or under the flooring. Then, you’ll have a bigger issue to deal with.

What About Vinegar?

Another household mold removal technique out there is vinegar. Some people have used this liquid to try to get rid of mold growth in their homes. And, in all honesty, it has worked when it comes to killing some molds. Some have found that white vinegar is a worthy opponent of small mold outbreaks. But, like bleach, white vinegar can’t kill every type of mold growth. More times than none, the mold problem is way bigger than suspected. The mold could be growing far below the surface. It could be causing a lot of health issues you’re not even aware of yet.

It’s Dead, So It’s Done!

People often believe that, since the mold has been killed, the problem is gone. No more mold! But, that isn’t true. Killing mold is great, but, if the spores and the actual root of the growth are not eliminated, you’ve still got an issue. Mold can actually still be dangerous even when it has been killed. Allergens are still present, so, it can still make you sick. So, it’s important to remember that, while bleach and vinegar may kill some kinds of mold, you’ll need something else. A thorough job will need to be done to make sure that all of the mold is gone.
